Care Instructions

OFT Products are designed to be as durable as they can be indoors and out. Although we can ensure the quality of our products we can’t control the weather, dust or wether or not your toddler throws their lunch at your new light, and so we’ve outlined some care instructions below to follow when cleaning.

Metals

Our metal Finishes are not lacquered or sealed to allow for a natural patina finish that will darken over time, if installed outside the patina process will occur quicker than a light installed indoors. Use a lint free dry cloth to clean dust or debris from the surface, if cleaned with water or any solvent this will speed up the patinaring process.

When cleaning outdoor located lights we only recommend using a damp cloth to remove any dirt or rain marks that may occur in weathered environments.

Powder-Coat

Powder-Coat is a very durable finish that may require dust to be removed. For cleaning it is recommended that a dry or damp lint free cloth is used to remove dust or debris. If soap is required use a neutral general purpose cleaner such as soapy water, immediately remove any soapy residue with a dry cloth. Please do not use strong solvents or abrasive cleaning pads as they can cause scratches to the surface.

Glass

For glass that is not frosted such as our Opal glass clean with a damp lint free cloth.
For Frosted glass we recommend cleaning dust with a dry lint free cloth. If the frosted glass has oily fingerprints we recommend cleaning with an alcohol wipe that does not contain any colouring that you would usually find in window or mirror cleaner as this can stain the glass. Clear Methylated spirits is a good substitute to mirror or window cleaner. When changing the lamps in your light always use gloves to remove the glass cover ensuring no fingerprints are left on the glass.

Timber

Our timber components are waxed with natural beeswax for a natural shine that helps keep your Light looking rich in colour, condition. We recommend cleaning with a lint free cloth to avoid scratches. If the timber begins to dry out it may need another application of beeswax. Before using the beeswax polish, ensure the surface is dust free, apply the Beeswax Polish onto a lint-free cloth and rub into the wooden surface following the direction of the grain.

Electricals

If your light fails to work we recommend changing the Lamp as a first point of troubleshooting. You can contact us to purchase a replacement lamp or have it replaced if it is still in warranty. Please always ensure the light is switched off before changing the lamp. If changing your lamp does not resolve the problem please contact a licensed electrician to check if the power supply is present and if your electrician confirms power is present please contact us for repair.
